Finally, a Bike Plan for Houston

Composer5 *While Houston is one of the most walkable cities in Texas, it’s nowhere near the Top 50 Bike-Friendly Cities in the United States. It’s a shame, really, for such a large city. This shows how little is being done to make biking safe in the city. People riding bikes are constantly in danger of being hit by cars. In fact, it took a tragic accident in Montrose to raise awareness of the lack of safety measures for cyclists.

Things will finally change when the City Council approved to create a Bike Master Plan for the City of Houston.

The plan would incorporate traffic studies with ideas from riders about what type of improvements they want to see, where they live, where they work, and where they want to bike. Ultimately, the hope is that at the end of the planning process the city will have a concrete list of priorities to tackle, like street improvements and well-defined networks designed to help cyclists safely travel the city.  (Source: Houston Press)

This is  good news for cycling enthusiasts and advocates and will definitely change the bike landscape in the city while taking into consideration safety for cyclists and motorists.

It’s about time, Houston!
